Situated about 90 minutes drive from Cape Town Hermanus is known as the best place for land based whale watching during the winter months say from July to November.
There are 2 ways to get there….via the main National road the the N2, or via the scenic Cape Rivera route.
The town is a small coastal village, laid back, with mountains behind and the ocean in front.
Besides the whale watching activities there are 3 to 4 other activities that one can do in and around Hermanus.
1) Hermanus Farmers Market: If you like to experience different foods, in a relaxed outdoor setting ,then add this to your days agenda. Dont eat breakfast this am, as you will be blown away by the range and options for your taste buds to enjoy.
2)Fern Kloof Nature Reserve: Short day hikes in a nature reserve that has lots of variety re flowers, and if you are lucky you will be treated to a smorgasbord of colors and smells
3) Great white Cage Diving: Available about 45 minutes or less drive from Hermanus in Gansbaai.
4) Sea Kayaking with the whales..weather dependent as well as a whale watching boat tour again weather dependant.
4) Of course,we all like to eat…so stop by this casual, friendly local restaurant that has a nice warm fire for those colder winter days…Anyas Moms Cafe
When I design tours of Cape Town I often include Hermanus, as it has variety, it gets you out of the big city ,has a scenic drive component, and offers much value for a day tour.
There is also a Botanical Garden along the way to Hermanus, via the scenic route, and we also offer a Whale Watching/Wine Tasting day tour to this area.
As well along the way there are some hidden wineries hidden as not that well known, amazing farm stores and a local culinary market.
