The East Coast Meander

This tour can start in East London ending up in Durban, or start in Durban and end up in East London or Port Elizabeth which makes for a easy transition to experience the Garden Route.

Location:

East Coast of South Africa.

Best time to visit:

Anytime November to March is hot, humid with summer rain.

DAY 1:
Pick up from Durban and drive to Mbotyi River Lodge.Dinner at the lodge.

This will take us about 6 hours of travel passing through the cane fields of Southern Kwa Zulu, which transition to the mountains of the Eastern Cape, ending up at the Indian Ocean.

A variation to his day could be to fly into Mthatha which is very close to the lodge giving you more time to explore the area or relax at the lodge before the next day tour activities.

DAY 2:
After breakfast we will drive to Water Fall Bluff (depending on the weather) as well as to Fraser Water Falls, Angel Water Falls and Magwa Water Falls .

We will take a lunch with us returning later to the Lodge.

DAY 3:
Drive from Mbotyi to Port St John’s spending time in this small vibrant coastal town.

Thereafter we drive to the Nelson Mandela Museum in Mthatha.

We continue on to Cofee Bay where we will check into our hotel, take some time to relax and head off to join a village
dinner in Coffee Bay village

DAY 4:
After breakfast we will drive or walk to Hole in The Wall where if the tide is right we can swim to the other side and walk up the wild Coast trail to get a sense of the rural nature of this area.

Alternatively we can relax by the river or head back to the hotel where the day is yours to enjoy the ocean and this small coastal spot.

Alternative lodging is to stay at a local backpackers that is located close to what has been voted as the nicest beach in South Africa twice. Its possible to do some village walks as well

DAY 5:
After breakfast we head to Qunu where we will visit the village of Nelson Mandela via Mvezo , continuing on to the seaside holiday small coastal town of Morgan Bay, eventually ending at Cintsa to check inn at your lodge.

Free time to enjoy this ocean side location.

DAY 6:
Drive to East London for a city tour or do a township tour, visiting a soup kitchen and some other community based programs.

Your tour ends here dropping you of at the airport or at car rental office if that is what your next mode of transport is.
