Vegan Africa Safari

Q: What is a Vegan Africa safari ?
A: Vegan travelers on a Africa safari want to experience the magnificence of the Africa wildlife and have their eating preferences catered for.
The word safari means journey in Swahili, it implies a range of activities.
Whether it be the early wake call sometimes to the sound of the African drum, snacks while on Safari game drives, lunch, the evening meal possibly with vegan wine, its all available on a custom designed Vegan Africa Safari.
In many cases most hotels/safari lodges or camps simply cater for the vegan traveler. Catering is a very impersonal service..one does the least to make it look like the most.
Accommodating the vegan traveler is a different thing…here the vegan traveler wishes or needs are treated just like any other traveler.
This is what we shrive to achieve with our custom design vegan safari and tour services…that the vegan traveler is given the attention they deserve.
Vegan dessert at a Luxury Lodge in Kenya…no safari is complete without dessert
I have been on Safari in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe long before this current upsurge in popularity in plant based foods due to leading a vegetarian lifestyle for over 40 years ,and have had no problem obtaining the food I pre order.
Of course the more remote you get its possible the more simple the choices become, beans and rice here we come. However the location, the magical Africa Safari bush more than make up for any gourmet meals missed and when you are out you can eat it up again. This only applies to very remote locations otherwise the quality goes right up at most if not all Africa safari lodges and or camps.
Not bad for a moderate vegan safari breakfast.
In fact most Africa safari lodges as part of the reservation experience ask about meal preferences.
As we custom design Africa safari you can be ensured that your Vegan African Safari will not only be catered for both in the lodge/camp meals but also for the morning/after game drives snacks etc.
If you are new to a Africa safari we have a information page about a Africa safari that will answers many questions about a typical day activities on safari, safari clothing, etc
There are many choices for a Vegan Africa Safari ie South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia etc as well combining any of these locations with a Uganda Gorilla Safari.Your local guide for this Gorilla Safari is a long time vegetarian as well.
The other culinary experience that present itself in some Africa safari lodges is to try local vegan based meal options.
Beans, carrots, papadum, potatoes, rice, minced spicy vegetable salad, and kale-stuffed ugali.
Ugali is a dish of maize flour (or a blend with millet or sorghum) cooked with water to a dough-like consistency. It is served in balls, from ping pong ball to fist size or large scoops.
It is the most common staple starch featured in the local cuisines of the African Great Lakes region and Southern Africa.
Think of it as polenta, without the yellow or the salt. The maize flour used in ugali is from white corn. It is traditionally not salted or seasoned, but rather served with spicy sauces to add the contrast to the plain grains.
While most Africa Safari lodges/camps offer a plant based Africa Safari option here are a couple of Africa Safari camps/lodges/places to help stir the creativity.
Here are some tips/suggestions for your Vegan Safari bush/beach honeymoon.
1) You don’t need supplement’s while or because you are on a safari( unless you regularly take them) The meals are quite nutritious.
I have been living this lifestyle for 46 years and have been given veg/vegan and raw food meals in safari lodges long before this current upsurge in vegan popularity. The quality of the food and service for the most part will surprise you.
2) All the safari game drive vehicles and lodges/camps will have bottled water.
3) Some folks ask should we bring snacks..if you want to…or be open to experience what you will be given. You are in a different part of the world and each location has local vegan options.
4) No lodge will charged you a surcharge for a vegan meal and if they do consider another lodge.
Possibly for vegan wine, not for a meal, and I as a safari specialist who has done this for a long time have never ever run across that situation.
If i had to come across a lodge that charged a surcharge for a vegan meal I would talk to the manger or owners and give them you know what of my mind, and zero business.
5) Camps/lodges are remote locations…they need the guest to be happy so they the guests will spread the word about there services.
All the mangers/chefs are for the most part very open to talk especially on arrival to briefly reconfirm that they have the initial request for vegan meals from the booking agent or there office. Easy done.
This moment of a honeymoon safari is a special time and we will support that goal so that your vegan Africa safari honeymoon will be part of your memories for a long time to come.
